geoDatabase

In order to maintain the database for your classifieds system, you will need to login to your System Administrator account. You may login by clicking "Login" on the top menu of your classifieds. After you are logged in, you will be presented with the user account screen. On the left hand menu, you should see a link labeled "System Admin". Clicking this link will take you to the admin control panel.

When you enter the admin control panel, you will see a list of links in the left hand column. This section of the manual deals with the "Manage Database" section of your control panel. After clicking the "Manage Database" link, you will be presented with a screen which is broken into a few sections.

Only System Admininistrators are able to view this section of the admin panel.

The BosDev geoDatabase is designed to offer your visitors a world database of countries, regions and cities from which they may choose locations for their listings. With 235 coutnries, 4,866 regions and 1,943,085 cities we're pretty sure we have most of the world covered. The geoDatabase system will allow you to import a complete country, and then remove any regions or cities you do not want.

Adding a country

You will first need to visit the geoData web page to download the countries you are interested in importing. After you've download the country pack(s), go to your admin panel for the BosDev application, select Manage geoDatabase and click "Install country data-pack". You will then be presented with a screen which you can use to select the country pack to import. Do not interupt the process, as it is loading 10,000 cities at a time. Wait until the confirmation screen appears before doing anything else.

After the country is imported, you can then "fine tune" your cities.

Fine tuning

When you load a country pack, you get the entire package. However, you may not want all of the regions/cities that the country pack loaded. To fine tune this list, select the country you wish to modify. A new selector will appear which contains all of the regions in the country. If you wish to remove an entire region, select that region and then click the delete link next to it. Removing a region will remove all of the cities associated with that region.

If you wish to add a region, select the country and then select the add region link. You will then be presented with an input box to create the new region.

To add or remove cities from a region, select the country and then the region to edit. You will be presented with a list of the cities in that region. To remove a city, click the delete link next to the city. To add a new city, click the "add city" link.

Editing names

When editing a city, region or country name, we recommend using extended unicode for special characters. If this item is to contain extended characters such as à or ā, it is recommended to enter the HTML entity code for that character, such as à or ā
