Categories

In order to setup the categories for your calendar system, you will need to login to your System Administrator account. You may login by clicking "Login/Create Account" on the top menu of your calendar. After you are logged in, you will be presented with the user account screen. On the top menu, you should see a link labeled "Admin". Clicking this link will take you to the admin control panel.

When you enter the admin control panel, you will see a list of links in the left hand column. This section of the manual deals with the "Manage Categories" section of your control panel. After clicking the "Manage Categories" link, you will be presented with a page which will allow you to create, edit, and delete categories.

Only users assigned to the System Admininistrator usergroup, or who are in a user group with the Panel Access, and Manage Categories flags set to yes are able to view this section of the admin panel.

The BosDates calendar system uses event categories to allow your visitors to refine what they are looking for when viewing the calendar. Imagine for instance if you were running a calendar for a school. You might set up sub calendars for scholastic events, sports events, etc. By visiting the sports calendar, your visitors would see all sport related events. But what if they only wanted to see football events. By creating a football category, and then assigning events to that category, your users would be able to find exactly what they are looking for.

In order to create a new category, simply enter the category name into the provided box and click Process. After the category is created, it is not ready for use. You must now go into the Manage Calendars section, and add the new category to the calendars you wish to use the newly created category. This way, your "football" category would not show up in the scholastic calendars, which really would not make sense.

To edit a category title, click the edit link next to the category. You will then be able to update the title for the category.

To delete a category, click the delete link.
