Database

In order to backup and restore the database for your calendar system, you will need to login to your System Administrator account. You may login by clicking "Login/Create Account" on the top menu of your calendar. After you are logged in, you will be presented with the user account screen. On the top menu, you should see a link labeled "Admin". Clicking this link will take you to the admin control panel.

When you enter the admin control panel, you will see a list of links in the left hand column. This section of the manual deals with the "Manage Database" section of your control panel. After clicking the "Manage Database" link, you will be presented with the database controls for your calendar.

Only users assigned to the System Admininistrator usergroup, or who are in a user group with the Panel Access, and Manage Database flags set to yes are able to view this section of the admin panel.

Routinely making a database backup of your calendar system is not only easy to do, but it also highly recommended. Having a regular backup on hand is useful if something happens to your web server.

Anytime you visit this panel, the database will automatically perform some repair and optimization routines to ensure the database is running in top form. The initial loading of this screen may take a few extra seconds, so have patience and do not interupt it.

Once the screen is loaded, you will see sections which will allow you to download a copy of the database, upload a previously saved restore file, purge the database, and a section to remove event templates.

To backup the database, simply choose which database to back up (we suggest backing up both databases) and click Process. The system will then create a text file and force your web browser to download it. Save this file in a safe location on your computer.

To restore a backup file, click the file button to locate a previously saved backup file from your computer. Please note that this restore routine expects a specifically formatted file that the system generates. Modifying the downloaded backups is NOT recommended.

To purge your database of older events, select how far back to purge and click the purge button. Events older than your selected time frame will be eliminated along with their images and attachments. This tool is effectively used to clear up space in not only the database, but the drive space of the server.

If you need to remove an old event template which is no longer needed, select the template in the last section of this panel and click process. The event template will be removed.
