BosDates v4.5 Manual

System Setup

In order to setup the global system options for your calendar system, you will need to login to your System Administrator account. You may login by clicking "Login/Create Account" on the top menu of your calendar. After you are logged in, you will be presented with the user account screen. On the top menu, you should see a link labeled "Admin". Clicking this link will take you to the admin control panel.

When you enter the admin control panel, you will see a list of links in the left hand column. This section of the manual deals with the "Manage System" section of your control panel. After clicking the "Manage System" link, you will be presented with the global system settings for your calendar.

Only users assigned to the System Admininistrator usergroup, or who are in a user group with the Panel Access, and Manage System flags set to yes are able to view this section of the admin panel.

There are several different settings on this screen, which will control the overall behavior of the calendar.

The first few options, the Page title, Meta-Keywords and Meta Description setup the title and meta tags for the HTML pages generated by the application.

The "Show admin link" selector will tell the calendar system if it should show the "admin" link in the top menu. If it is set to no, the you will need to either reach the admin panel directly, or by using the "Admin" link in the "Your account" section.

If you wish to allow visitors the option of using the myDates feature of the calendar, then set the "Activate myDates" to yes. The myDates feature is a personal agenda for your visitors. For more information on myDates, please see that section.

BosDates has the option of displaying week numbers, and day of the year numbers in block view modes of the calendar. If you wish to enable those displays, then you may set them to Yes in the "Display week #'s" and "Display day #'s" selectors.

The "Display alignment" selector allows you to choose how the events are displayed on the calendar while in block or hybrid view modes. You may choose to left align, center, or right align the events within the blocks to suit your tastes.

BosDates can display events in one of two ways, popup or full screen. Using the popup option will open a small new popup window for the event when the visitor clicks on an event to view it's details. If you choose the fullscreen mode, then the calendar will change to a page showing the event and three mini-calendars in the existing window.

The "Language" selector will allow you to define which language to show the calendar in. The visitors to your web site may choose a different language by using the selector at the bottom of the calendar. If you do not wish to offer additional languages, remove the language files from the /languages directory.

The BosDates calendar can create RSS feeds for your visitors to use, and for you to syndicate your events. The calendar system creates RSS 2.0 compliant RSS files. The name of the RSS files will be your calendar title, without any spaces in the title. Each calendar you create will have it's own unique RSS file, which will contain the next 10 events which are posted to that calendar. The RSS feeds are created automatically each day, and are updated anytime an event is added, edited or deleted. If you do not wish to offer the RSS feeds, set the "Enable RSS" selector to no.

BosDates has the ability to display the calendar in many different day arrangements. The "Calendar layout" selector will allow you to choose which arrangement to use. You may choose from the traditional SMTWTFS view mode, move the weekends to the end of the arrangement by using MTWTFSS mode, put them to the beginning of the week by using the SSMTWTF method, or remove the weekends all together by using the MTWTF method.

If you wish to show visitors when an event was last edited while they are viewing an event, set the "Show date event last edited" selector to yes. This will add to the end of the description a small note saying when the event was edited, and who performed the edit.

The "Date range" section will allow you to limit how far forward or backwards a visitor (or a search engine) can view the calendar. To use these sections, you must enter a english only command such as "-1 month", or "+3 years". It must be in english, as that is the only thing that PHP itself can understand.

The "Payment gateway" section is used to define how fees are to be paid for, when a visitor enters an event or makes a reservation, which requires payment. You may choose multiple payment options to present to the user by clicking the box next to the option. Make sure you accurately fill in the required information for the options chosen. For the mail-in option, use a | in the address box to create a new line. So that "PO Box 444|Abilene, TX 79602|ATTN: Payments" would produce:

PO Box 444
Abilene, TX 79602
ATTN: Payments

The last section of this screen determines how the link for the events on the calendar are to be displayed. You may go through and setup color choices, font, font styles and sizes to suit your tastes. If you do not wish to present so many options, simply remove the unwanted choices. The first box of each sub-section here will determine the "default" choices in the Add Event screens.
