Categories
In order to setup categories for your links directory, you will need to login to your administrator account. You may login by clicking "Login/Create Account" on the top menu bar of the directory. After you are logged in, you will be presented with the user account screen. On the left hand menu, you should see a link labeled "System Admin". Clicking this link will take you to the admin control panel.
When you enter the admin control panel, you will see a list of links in the left hand column. This section of the manual deals with the "Manage Categories" section of your control panel. After clicking the "Manage Categories" link, you will be presented with the settings which controls the categories of your links directory.
As soon as you hit this screen, you will notice that it is divided into four different sections: Add Category, Current Categories, Sort Categories and Set Price.
At the top of the screen, will be a breadcrumb trail which will show you where you currently are, that is which level/path you are currently viewing. If it shows "Home", then you are currently viewing categories in the root level (or top) of the directory.
In order to create a category in the current level, simply type the desired category name into the "Add new category" box. The new category will be setup with default values, and at the END of the current list of categories. Default settings means that the category will be set up to allow links to be posted, with no fee. The category will not have a description nor will it have an image.
In order to create a sub-category of an existing category, click on the name of the category which is to receive the sub-category in the "Current categories" section. You will then notice the "Current path" has changed. You may then add new categories to the current category, so that one is nested inside the other.
To edit a category to setup more details for that category, simply click the "edit" link next to the category name in the "Current categories" list. You will then be presented with a screen where you may setup a description, an image, any "related" categories, whether a user can post a link to the category and what the fee, if any, would be for posting to this category.
If you wish to change the order of the categories being displayed in the directory, you may move them one at a time by using the "up" and "down" links in the "Current categories" section. This will allow you to fine tune the order the categories are seen by the users. You may also use the "Sort categories" section to automatically rearrange the entire directory system by selecting either to sort by Alphabetical or # of listings and clicking the proceed button. This is a fast way to sort your entire directory system, from which you can then fine tune the directory as needed.
If you wish to remove a category from the directory system, simply click the "delete" link next to the category name in the "Current categories" section. You may have noticed a number next to the category name, this is the number of subcategories in that category. Deleting a category will also delete all of the subcategories it contains, and possibly orphan listings which were in those categories. Exercise care when deleting categories.
The last section in this screen will allow you to set the price for all of your categories, with one click. Simply enter your desired price (without and currency symbols such as $) and the system will update every category in the directory with your new price.
For specifics on individual items on this screen, please see the reference section.
