System Setup

In order to setup the global system options for your links directory, you will need to login to your administrator account. You may login by clicking "Login/Create Account" on the top menu bar of the directory. After you are logged in, you will be presented with the user account screen. On the left hand menu, you should see a link labeled "System Admin". Clicking this link will take you to the admin control panel.

When you enter the admin control panel, you will see a list of links in the left hand column. This section of the manual deals with the "Manage System" section of your control panel. After clicking the "Manage System" link, you will be presented with the global system settings for your links directory.

There are several different settings on this screen, which will control the overall behavior of the links directory.

The first few options, the Page title, Meta-Keywords and Meta Description setup the title and meta tags for the HTML pages generated by the application.

The links directory offers you three choices of how the link structure will appear in the links directory. A traditional php style, a spider friendly style and an extended spider friendly style. Please see the reference section for Manage System for examples.

This section will also allow you to choose which language to display the directory in. The pulldown menu will be populated with your available choices. Please note that this only changes the language for the text created by the script. User input/descriptions/etc are not automatically translated.

After the language selection, you will see a series of pulldown menus allowing you to choose how certain features operate.

Tracking clicks from the directory will allow you to track link popularity as it records how many visitors click each link in the directory.

Allowing anonymous listings will offer you the choice of forcing users to create an account when they wish to post a link, or allowing them to post a link without being registered. Anonymously posted links are ALWAYS marked as pending, and are not shown in the directory until you approve them. There is however a toggle to allow links which do not require a fee to be automatically posted to the directory. Any link for which the user has paid a fee to list their link in your directory is automatically posted to the directory for viewing.

The next block of toggles will allow you to tailor how the reviews are handled. You may turn off reviews completely, or enable them. You may also choose if a visitor can anonymously post a review, or if they are required to create an account to post a review. Anonymously posted reviews are ALWAYS marked as pending, and are not shown/tabulated until you approve the review. You may optionally set reviews from registered users to require approval before they are shown to the public, or you may autoapprove the reviews.

One of the many options you may offer your visitors is the ability to upload an image with their listing. You have a control available to set the maximum width of the image they upload on this screen. You may also control how many characters they are allowed to enter for their link description. The Listing Options section will allow you to choose whether or not to allow visitors to sponsor categories, embolden their listing, italize it or give it a colored background. You will also be enabled to determine if you wish to charge a fee for these options, by entering a price in the correct box.

The payment section will allow you to determine which payment gateway/connection is used when the visitor owes a fee for their listing. Each payment method requires it's own unique settings. After you have chosen which gateway you wish to use, you will need to enter the correct payment information in the two boxes provided. Please see the payment reference section in order to determine the correct information for your chosen gateway.

The reciprocal link section will allow you to setup your links directory so that the visitor must first have a link on one of his own web pages before he is allowed to post a link in your directory. If the system cannot verify that he has a link to the page you've specified, he will not be allowed to post his link in your directory. You can set up the maximum number of links they should have on their page, and a list of "bad words" which you do not wish to be associated with. This will make sure that their link back to you is not on a "spam" page, and that the links on their page are links you do not mind being connected to. For example, if you were running an automotive directory, you would not want any links to casinos on the same page as your link.

The last section of this panel will allow you to set up time options for the user to choose from when they place their link. You may set up to 4 options for them to select. To set up an option, choose how many days you wish that option to be for, and if there is a price adjustment to take into consideration. If you wish to make an option "unlimited", simply set the number of days to be 0. If you do not wish to have 4 options presented, simply clear out the number of days box so it is empty.

For specifics on individual items on this screen, please see the reference section.
