System Setup

In order to setup the system for your news system, you will need to login to your System Administrator account. You may login by visiting the admin directory via your web browser, such as http://www.yourdomain.com/admin/ and logging in to the system. After you are logged in, you will be presented with the administration control panel.

When you enter the administration control panel, you will see a list of links in the left hand column. This section of the manual deals with the "Manage System" section of your control panel. After clicking the "Manage System" link, you will be presented with the setup for your news system.

Only System Admininistrators are able to view this section of the admin panel.

There are several different settings on this screen, which will control the overall behavior of the news.

The first few options, the Page title, Meta-Keywords and Meta Description setup the title and meta tags for the HTML pages generated by the application.

The "Main page where news is embedded" should contain the URL to the page where you are displaying the news at. This should be a complete URL, as it is used to create links back to the main news page. If you are embedded the news in a web page with an IFRAME, you need to enter the URL to that page, not the url to the news script itself.

The "Language" selector will allow you to define which language to show the news prompts in.

The news system gives you the choice to allow visitors to your web site the ability to post articles to the news system. If this is enabled, you will see a link at the bottom of your news program labeled "submit news". If you wish, you may force users to create an account before they submit any news article, or you may allow them to post the articles anonymously. Lastly, you may choose whether you wish to preview and approve articles which are submitted, or allow them to be posted immediately to the system. If you choose to preview the articles before they are shown live, they will appear as "Pending Articles" in the Manage News section of the admin panel.

The BosNews script will allow you to choose if you wish visitors to have an option of posting comments on your articles. You may also choose to preview and approve comments on your articles, before they are posted live. If you choose to preview the comments, they will appear as "Pending Comments" in the Manage Comments section of the admin panel.

The "From email address" is used when sending emails to users, such as the account creation, and account verification emails. Please make sure to enter a valid email address within this box.

The news system allows you to prevent users from creating accounts based upon the users email address. If you wish to prevent users from registering accounts with for example Yahoo! or HotMail accounts, you may enter "@yahoo.com" or "@hotmail.com" into the "Banned email addresses" box. If you wish to prevent a specific email address such as "spammer@yahoo.com" you may enter their full email address into the box. Separate each enter with a space, example:

"@yahoo.com @hotmail.com joe@spammer.com".
